CJSF meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month after school for about 20-30 minutes in the multipurpose room.
 
Requirements for membership in 7/8 Grade CJSF
It is a MANDATORY requirement for students to apply each semester for membership, during the application acceptance period.
 
CJSF eligibility points are granted as follows:
A = 3 points
B = 1 point *
C = 0 points
Students must earn a total of 8 points from the following subjects in the previous semester: Language Arts, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science.
No points are earned for PE, remedial, repeated courses, or electives.
A grade of "D" or "F" in any class bars a student from membership.
Behavior and citizenship grades must be maintained as satisfactory or better in all classes. as well as have No "N"s or "U"s in any class.
Students must reapply each semester.
Students qualifying for and becoming members of CJSF based on their end-of-semester grades from at least three of the following four semesters will be eligible to culminate with honors from 8th grade.

What is CJSF?

CJSF is a statewide organization that honors academically excellent students in junior high and high school (CSF).

 

What are the benefits of membership?

Students will find that being a member of CJSF allows them to be in a group of students who are also academically successful. Students will be able to participate in activities that help the community as well. 

 

How do I join?

Anyone is eligible to apply for CJSF! Application periods open up August 29, 2016, for the Fall semester. Students can pick up an application in room 516 or print one of this website. They can return the application to room 516. Please remember that due dates are final. There will be no acceptance of late applications. Applications are due by the end of school on September 14th.

 

I submitted my application...does that mean I am automatically a member?

Unfortunately, no. The state organization has a rigorous point system for membership based purely on the letter grades of the student. The adviser will review your application and your point total will decide if you become a member or not.

 

I applied but I haven't heard anything yet...

 The CJSF adviser does not contact each student each trimester. If you or your parents are wondering about your application please contact Mr. Stromberg, cstromberg@tusd.k12.ca.us 

 

I have A's and B's, but I didn't qualify for membership. Why?

Membership is based on points, if you have more B's than A's you might not have enough points. If your A's are in classes like P.E or Teacher Assistant then we cannot count them. Do your best each trimester to earn the most outstanding grades you can! If you have any pluses (B+, C+) ask your teacher what you can do to get them up to the next grade level! Don't give up!

 

Why do we have to apply each semester?

We apply each semester because grades change. We want to make sure you still qualify.

 

Why don't you accept late applications?

 In the laws of the state organization of CJSF it specifically states that late applications may not be accepted. Chapters that do so can lose their membership. Turning applications in on time in part of being in CJSF. Please plan ahead, stay informed, watch the news at school, and don't forget!

CJSF Advisor

My name is Colby Stromberg and I am the club advisor for CJSF. We are accepting applications for membership for the next two weeks. Below I have given some more information regarding what CJSF is and what we do both on and off campus. I have also attached an application form that you can print out and send to school with your son or daughter. If you cannot print one off, I have copies of them on my door at school room 516.

On campus we do recycling of paper and bottles and cans, sell boo grams, holiday grams, and Valentine grams to raise money to do a college visit during the year. We also do a pizza card fundraiser to also help raise funds for the trip. In the past three years, we have visited UCLA, UCSD, and UCR.

In a addition, the students have to do 10 hours of volunteer work in the community per semester. We like the students to not only be a good student on campus but good individuals in the community.

 

What are the benefits of CJSF membership?

  • CJSF prepares the student for high school and beyond.
  • Membership also brings with it the opportunity to participate in activities which benefit the school and the community. 
  • The students get involved by volunteering for different organizations outside of school. 
  • Volunteering allows the students to create connections to the community and allows the students to experience life from a different point of view.
  • As the students get to high school they will have to complete a minimum amount of hours for graduation requirements. 
  • Colleges also like to see well-rounded individuals that serve their community in some form.
